Facebook is the new Outlook …

Posted in Uncategorized by Patrick Berry on September 14, 2008

I find Facebook just as buggy but far more of use in my day-to-day life management tasks than Outlook has ever been. It weaves email, IM, real-time contact management and contact updates. Plus I know far more than I ever would want to know on an hourly basis about how my friends are feeling (those whom are inclined to share).

This article from Tech Crunch ordains Facebook as the ultimate killer web app versus just a social network.

This spot (with Bill Gates) was $10,000,000 cheaper, and is viral because it says so on the tool bar below.

The French make the most of their dongles.

Posted in Tech by Patrick Berry on September 5, 2008

If there are any geeks in promotions agencies this will make them hot and bothered.  A combination USB/RFID dongle.  First – I enjoy saying “dongle.”  Second – while this article details usage within the French rail sector, an RFID scheme I imagine can wirelessly reward customers at POS locations.  Third – a USB tie-in to an online rewards program (mycokerewards-ish kinda thing.)  I don’t know how much these suckers cost but I’ll find out after I have more coffee.
I presume this has absolutely nothing to so with SEO, but there are digital stalwarts who need to see “S-E-O” in articles to know we’re thinking about it.

"Missile" on Google Maps

Posted in Google by Patrick Berry on September 4, 2008

This “missile” lives in the ethereal world of Google Maps.  If this is for real it’s amazing.  On second look it appears to be an aircraft with wings painted black.

Or is it?

A few years ago a B2 stealth bomber showed up parked on a U.S. Airforce base, and automagically disappeared once it hit the press.

Here’s a guy caught “napping” on the roadside after a long night.
So if you’re gonna get busted carrying-on on the rooftop, get caught with the one you’re supposed to get caught with.  I think.

I want Sterling Cooper as a client.

Posted in Pop Culture by Patrick Berry on September 3, 2008
Talk about letting go of control of your brand.

Exhibit A is Twitter feeds from Don_Draper, Peggy Olsen and others (comedian Jimmy Barrett) that allow agency blokes and wannabe’s to vicariously join in the agency fun.

Exhibit B is a fan site for Sterling Cooper that aggregates web news including tweets from the characters and legal wrangling of parody sites.

Wet bars and couches make ad agency meetings awesome.

Survival Tweeting.  The Gustav Information Center is an amazing Ning social network.  An aggregator of all things Gustav it provides Twitter updates from the National Weather Service, hourly weather models, and wikis for tracking missing persons and Katrina learnings.

Uses Google Maps for shelter locations.
